The challenge

A learner can be putting in the effort and still get stuck before the calculation begins. “I don’t know what it’s asking” needs different support from “I know what it wants, but I don’t know how to solve it.”

AFQT Unlocked was built around that distinction, with a guided path from foundational understanding toward independent practice.

What makes this intentional?

The 67 control gives the learner a way to ask for a different explanation without needing to diagnose their own difficulty. The support remains attached to the question they were trying to solve.

This example demonstrates a design choice. It is not a full assessment or a claim that a particular test outcome has been achieved.

What we look for as it’s used

Can the learner explain what the question wants? Can they choose a first move? Does the idea transfer to a new question with less help? Those observations guide what needs to change next.
